“Well… yes? Isn’t that the point of this little exercise?”
“Just the opposite actually. It’s about making a tough call in a tight spot. You can’t just resort to shortcuts or loopholes around the law — people may get hurt.”
well, now she just felt BAD. she could’ve guessed the guy was blind or pointed it out before. but everyone was always talking about how she shouldn’t be insensitive to people’s feelings, or whatever. ❝ nope. no ladies here. just one fat chick with an affinity for gobbling tacos. but i think she’s in the mood for chinese today, so it might just be your lucky day. ❞
❛ between you and me, the image of a lovely lady is skewed. ❜ says the blind man.
❛ but what do i know. ❜ he offers his arm, leaving an inviting gap just above the elbow. in any case, he could have walked to work ON HIS OWN but he was short on friends. takeout ALWAYS tasted better with a friend. ❛ chinese it is. ❜
❝ so… how does this work? do you just walk to work, do you carpool? cause you damn sure aren’t bumming a ride off me. unless there’s food involved. i will literally SELL MY SOUL for one of those greasy triple-double crunchwraps. sometimes i think taco bell comes out with new food
just
to suck me in. ❞
❛ i hope you like chinese because that’s the BEST i can BUY. normally, i walk to work with my partner, and he guides me… BUT ––––––– today he’s called in SICK and insisted i find a lovely lady to escort me. you wouldn’t happen to know one, would you?❜
A cut response stumbled in his throat as surprise took hold only to be foiled by confusion. His initial reaction donned a look of surprise, eyebrows raised, mouth slightly ajar ( words left on pause ) trying to decipher such a SIMPLE but strange sentence drop from her lips. But his expression shifted into that of confusion, brow creased, and his mouth a firm line. Detecting the lace of sarcasm in her milky tone, Matt decided to fight fire with fire, slipping in a note of sarcasm in his comeback.
❛You know –––––– I never took you as a sadist, Karen. ❜
The young Stark didn’t give her comment much thought until after it left her mouth, but even then it was only for a moment. She was an overly confident woman after all. Other’s opinions didn’t even register in her mind, unless it was someone she truly gave a fuck about. Although, she DID give a damn about others; HYDRA made it more so after anything she went through. However, she had a feeling disabled people didn’t enjoy being tip-toed around just because they lack something others had. So she wasn’t going to like those people.
“Oh, really! Do tell.” A small chuckle left her gloss covered lips. “How can you NOT notice a case involving newbie lawyers going against a massive asshole with a shit ton of money, controlling what seems half of the city? Also, I love seeing pricks go down. Sex.” She answered bluntly with a shit eating grin on her face. “And, of course, a chance to see the Kitchen’s biggest attraction.”
A DRY chuckle escaped the lawyer, undeniably engaged in an ambivalent form of amusement. In the short time Nelson & Murdock hatched as a fresh young firm, ready to take on the world and stretch its wings, it has seen SLOW days and even faced the brink of EXTINCTION, with only a shy handful of clients trickling in every so often. But since the corner firm ( just learning to fly ) tackled not one but two monumental cases — that rocked the city — Nelson & Murdock garnered an influx of potential clients from across the city walk through their doors. News of the small firm climbing the ranks reached corners far and wide.
But handling cases involving celebrity personalities like FISK or CASTLE left the firm exhausted. In the days following closing the case, they were left with handling eager reporters and company offers. They were trivial tasks, most of which Matt left to Foggy who enjoyed public attention, whereas Matt retreated to other nightly activities and left to unwind.
❛ Not enough sightseeing back home? ❜ Hell’s Kitchen isn’t much of a tourist trap in New York. Nothing special about the docks or the crime… maybe the odd chance of spotting the devil like Stark desired. For those just passing through, it’s get in and get out. As for the rest of the residents trapped in the city with no option but to stay and survive, Hell’s Kitchen didn’t exactly scream comfy cozy but it was home. He didn’t expect Stark to stay long.
❛ Your chances of seeing anything remotely interesting in Hell’s Kitchen is if you find yourself on the wrong side of an alley at night, which is highly unrecommended. ❜
Lydia smiled widely as the man realized who she was. It always amused her from an early age how someone changed when they noticed a Stark was in their presence. Whether it be very slightly or monumental. And always made her feel so much morePOWERFUL than she already did. Which went to her head, however, in the past years it has calmed down. “Don’t worry about it. I can see you didn’t.” Lyd couldn’t help but joke as she shook his hand. She gave him a curious look upon hearing his name, feeling she heard it before, until it clicked. “Matt Murdock! The very one that helped put Wilson Fisk in prison, correct?”
One way or another, someone down the line made a BLIND joke around him and damn it if he wasn’t used to it by now. He made a couple himself. Joking with other individuals eased the nature of the conversation. But she had no reservations whatsoever — which could be attributed to her over-confidence— and hearing a joke from her made all the difference. But made no comment. Instead, he shifted his attention to the matter concerning the one-time bane of his existence —FISK. The case he fought that brought down the Kingpin captured much more intention than predicted and certainly brought favorable attention to the firm. But taking down Fisk as Daredevil … that was rewarding. However, Lydia had meant his contribution as the lawyer Murdock. ❛ More than you know. ❜
Murdock let his hand fall back to his side, keeping a firm grip on the white cane with the other. ❛ So you’ve heard about the case, I take it. ❜ In truth, he never pegged her type for the kind interested in city level court cases. To be fair, it was a public victory so Murdock couldn’t help but be proud of Nelson & Murdock. It brushed his ego — put him in a good mood.
❛ If I may ask, what brings you to Hell’s Kitchen, Miss Stark? ❜
